Ajeenkya DY Patil University conducted its sixth graduation ceremony virtually on 31st January 2022. Dr. Ajeenkya D Y Patil, the university’s President, and Prof. Hrridaysh Deshpande, the Vice Chancellor, graced the occasion. Notably, the convocation address was delivered by Dr. Gregg L. Semenza, the Nobel Prize winner for Medicine, in 2019.

Around 763 students from various streams, including  Management, Design, Engineering, Law, Hotel Management, Film and Media were conferred degrees. At the graduation ceremony, 50 students from various courses were honored with medals for academic excellence.

In his convocation address, Nobel Laureate Dr. Gregg L. Semenza emphasized the crucial need for leaders who can acknowledge the climate crisis and employ science and technology to address it. He highlighted the significance of young leaders comprehending that global challenges like the pandemic and climate crisis necessitate a united, international response, expressing optimism in the determination of the younger generation to effect positive change.

Dr. Ajeenkya DY Patil recognized the pandemic as a profoundly shared global event and acknowledged the often unsung heroes, including doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, police, and drivers. He urged every student to draw inspiration from them. President Patil stressed that campuses are great equalizers, offering a level playing field for all individuals to share their ideas and joys. He emphasized that every student holds the potential to make a positive impact on the world and called on everyone to contribute to society. President Patil called for increased compassion, recognizing the universal human need for love, affection, and healing, and encouraged action to bring happiness to the world when it needs it most.

During his welcome address, Ajeenkya DY Patil University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hrridaysh Deshpande, presented the annual University report, highlighting the year’s achievements and activities.

Danny Gaekwad, a prominent American Entrepreneur and Community Leader, Nagraj Manjule, the renowned Film Director, Sudhir Mehta, Chairman of Pinnacle Industries, and Dr. R. Vasudevan, a Padma Shri Awardee, Dean ECA, and Professor at Thiagarajar College of Engineering were all honored with the Degree of Doctor of Letters, Honoris Causa (D.Litt.).
