The School of Design at Ajeenkya D Y Patil University (ADYPU) hosted its Deeksharambh (Induction Ceremony) on 28th July 2025 at the University’s Mini Auditorium, marking a warm welcome for the new batch of students. The event was graced by dignitaries, faculty members, students, and proud parents.
The ceremony began with a traditional Saraswati Vandana, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp—this time uniquely involving two students and two parents, symbolizing the collaborative journey ahead.
Mr. Ravi Badve, Director – Product Management (Cyber and Intelligence Solutions, Mastercard), was the Chief Guest and was felicitated by Vice Chancellor Dr. Rakesh Kumar Jain. Dean of the School of Design, Ar. Aparna Mhetras gave an insightful overview of SOD’s vision, mission, and industry collaborations, and introduced the faculty to the audience. She also acknowledged the achievements of senior students.
Faculty member Rupesh Gajbhiye elaborated on the various design programs and career opportunities. Rao Ranveer Singh emphasized academic discipline, studio practices, and professional conduct. Dean of Academics, Dr. Sunil Ingole, explained credit structures, major/minor specializations, and encouraged academic excellence.
Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Jain, shared his motivating ABCD mantra:
A – Awaken your passion for learning
B – Believe in yourself
C – Build character
D – Don’t give up
He concluded with a powerful quote by Swami Vivekananda: “Arise, Awake and Stop Not Until the Goal is Reached.”
Chief Guest, Mr. Ravi Badve, engaged students with real-world examples, explaining the role of design, ideation, creativity, and user experience, using references like Barbie doll and GE’s MRI concept design. He also shared the six stages of concept design.
Guest of Honour, Mr. Dilip Chhabria (DC), iconic car designer and founder of DC Design, inspired budding designers with insights on automotive design trends and real-time design checks. He emphasized that “Imagination is bigger than knowledge”—a powerful reminder for future creators.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session and a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dean Ar. Aparna Mhetras is marking the beginning of an exciting new journey for the students of the School of Design.
