In a significant step towards advancing academic excellence and defence-led innovation, Ajeenkya DY Patil University (ADYPU), Pune, signed two Memoranda of Understanding with Dr. Homi Bhabha State University (HBSU), Mumbai, on 21st May 2026. The dual agreements — one between ADYPU and HBSU, and a second between ADYPU Defence Research Innovation Foundation (DRIF) and HBSU — establish a comprehensive, multi-dimensional partnership spanning academic collaboration, applied research, and cutting-edge innovation in science and technology.
The signing ceremony brought together senior leadership from both institutions. Representing HBSU were Dr. Rajanish Kamat, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Shriniwas Kulkarni, Director, Institute of Science, and Dr. Vilas Padhye, Registrar. Ajeenkya DY Patil University (ADYPU) was represented by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Jain, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sudhakar Shinde, Registrar, Dr. Prashant Kumbharkar, Dr. Suresh Kumar and Ms. Priscilla Wilson GM, ADYPG.
The ADYPU–HBSU MOU formalises a wide-ranging academic partnership encompassing student exchange at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels; joint research and faculty collaboration; co-organised seminars, workshops, and conferences; and shared access to laboratory, library, and training facilities at both campuses.
The DRIF–HBSU MOU takes the collaboration a step further, focusing specifically on joint interdisciplinary research across science, technology, AI, data science, cyber domains, and forensic science. The agreement also provides for the establishment of joint research labs and innovation centres, skill development programmes, student internships, live projects, technology transfer, patents, and the promotion of startup development — all in alignment with national priorities of indigenous innovation and self-reliance.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives from both sides expressed enthusiasm for the opportunities this partnership would unlock — particularly for students and faculty seeking cross-institutional research exposure and hands-on innovation experiences.
