Chief Finance and Accounts Officer (CFAO)

Location : Ajeenkya DY Patil University, Pune
    Key Responsibilities:
      1. Financial Strategy and Planning:
    • Develop and implement the university’s financial strategy in alignment with its overall goals and objectives.
    • Lead the financial planning process, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
    • Provide strategic financial advice to the Vice-Chancellor, Board of Management, and other senior leadership.

    2. Budgeting and Financial Management:
    • Oversee the preparation and management of the university’s annual budget, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
    • Monitor and manage financial performance against the budget, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions as needed.
    • Ensure effective cash flow management, optimizing the university’s financial resources.

    3. Accounting and Financial Reporting:
    • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, reports, and accounts in compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
    • Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger and ensure the integrity of financial data.
    • Ensure that financial reporting is transparent, reliable, and meets the needs of internal and external stakeholders.

    4. Audit and Compliance:
    • Coordinate and oversee internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements and regulations.
    • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard the university’s assets and ensure financial accuracy.
    • Ensure compliance with all tax obligations, including income tax, GST, and other applicable taxes.

    5. Investment and Asset Management:
    • Oversee the management of the university’s investments, ensuring optimal returns within acceptable risk parameters.
    • Manage the university’s assets, including real estate, equipment, and other resources, ensuring they are used effectively and efficiently
    • Develop and implement policies for asset management, depreciation, and capital investment.

    6. Financial Risk Management:
    • Identify, assess, and manage financial risks, including credit risk, liquidity risk, and market risk
    • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to protect the university’s financial stability.
    • Ensure that the university has adequate insurance coverage to manage financial risks.

    7. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
    • Communicate the university’s financial performance and strategy to key stakeholders, including the Board of Management, academic departments, and external partners.
    • Act as a liaison with financial institutions, government agencies, auditors, and other external parties.
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making across the university.

    8. Team Leadership and Development:
    • Lead and manage the finance and accounts team, ensuring they are well trained, motivated, and aligned with the university’s goals.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the finance and accounts department.
    • Oversee the recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of finance staff.

    9. Policy Development and Implementation:
    • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and systems to ensure efficient and effective financial management.
    • Regularly review and update financial policies to reflect changes in regulations, best practices, and the university’s strategic direction

    10.Support for Academic and Research Initiatives:
    • Provide financial oversight and support for academic programs, research initiatives, and capital projects.
    • Ensure that financial resources are allocated effectively to support the university’s academic mission.


    Qualifications:
    • A Chartered Accountant (CA), Cost and Management Accountant (CMA), or an MBA in Finance with significant experience in financial management, preferably in the education sector.
    • Extensive experience in financial planning, budgeting, and management.
    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance requirements in India.
    • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency in financial management software and ERP systems.
    • Strong communication and leadership abilities.

    Desirable Attributes:
    • Experience in higher education finance or in a large, complex organization.
    • Strong understanding of financial risk management and internal controls.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and manage multiple priorities.
